Challenge
To satisfy the owner’s requirement for a long-term solution to provide many years of protection for a stateof-the-art green roof assembly.

Solution
An edge-to-edge application of Kemperol membrane encompassing all planter and field areas including ability to surface the membrane to match architectural concrete elements of the existing design. Considered the gold standard for green roofing technology in the U.S., Kemper System was featured at the Green Roof Symposium in Washington, D.C.

 
Massachusetts General Hospital – Boston, Massachusetts

Challenge
Provide a reliable, long-term waterproofing solution for a large landscaped roof garden located directly above critical care facilities. Roof garden design incorporated tree pits, planters, grass, and hardscaped walking areas, with total soil thickness of up to three feet in depth.

Solution
Complete edge-to-edge encapsulation of the parapet wall and deck structure with Kemperol membrane, followed by the installation of the landscaped overburden assembly. Hospital patients and their families are able to enjoy the tranquility of the roof garden, while the hospital facilities below remain leak-free and fully productive.

Greenwich Village Green Roof – New York City

Challenge
This high-profile project called for the installation of a private terrace, converting it from a conventional rooftop garden into a modern, artistic space. The client wanted to create an area for personal retreat, as well as to entertain guests for a variety of functions.

Solution
Applied Kemperol membrane to entire project area to safeguard client’s amenity because unlike conventional rooftop gardens, this outdoor space was not designed to be easily removed for inspection of the underlying structure should a leak occur.

 
Manhattan Penthouse Roof Garden – New York City

Challenge
The client of this large high-rise penthouse terrace requested a design for an outdoor environment to complement their multimillion-dollar apartment high atop the New York City skyline. Multiple levels of design required an adaptable product to accommodate complex architectural elements.

Solution
Applied Kemperol seamless membrane which was wrapped up to the balustrade level and created an airtight fit around flashings.

 
Restoration of Green Roofs at Manitoga – New York

Challenge
Leakage of the green roofs led to serious damage of the Russel Wright Designer's Dragon Rock Home and Studio which was completed in 1961.

Solution
Restoration of the Manitoga’s two green roofs combining historic consideration with proven technologies and innovations. Kemper system membranes were chosen because they weaved seamlessly into the existing historic fabrics while ensuring maximum protection against water infiltration.
 

Columbus Square - New York City

Challenge
Provide maintenance free waterproofing membrane for extensive landscaped garden roof above inhabited and retail space in luxury apartment complex.

Solution
150,000 sq. ft. landscaped garden roof with terraces and a pool on new construction project, located in the Upper West Side of NYC. The luxury apartment complex was finished in 2010 and considered state-of-the-art sustainable design criteria. So when it came to choosing waterproofing materials to protect the inhabited and retail space below the large green roof on the second floor of the building, cold-liquid applied Kemperol was the chosen system, providing a clean solution. After completion of work, a 30 NDL Warranty was issued.

Kiley Park - Tampa, FL

Challenge
Kiley Park in Tampa downtown, FL, follows a geometric layout of water, paths and lawns and was completed in 1988. Soon after, water began to leak into the underground parking garage below the park, which led the owners to drain fountains and plant grass in a large reflecting pool. Drainage was insufficient, causing the brackish water of the Hillsborough River to backflow into the gardens, killing the crape myrtles. 

Solution
After clearing away the trees, the complete built-up had to be removed down to the concrete deck before installing the new waterproofing system over the cleaned and primed surface. The liquid-applied resin adheres to the substrate over the entire surface and forms a seamless membrane. Due to its fleece reinforcement, the membrane is capable to bridge cracks and to compensate for structural movements. The fact that the membrane is rot and root resistant and FLL tested made Kemper System the ideal choice for waterproofing the complete plaza and planters. On top of the waterproofing membrane, soil was replaced with a lighter hybrid of sand, rock and topsoil, lessening the weight load on the parking garage below. Many of Kiley’s original pavers were restored and reinstalled, as well as several water features to maintain Kiley’s original design.
